King Mountain Forestry, LLC, is a family-run business based just outside the rural community of Deer Lodge, Montana. KMF is dedicated to timber management strategies that focus on preserving wildlife habitat, preventing forest fires, and avoiding long-term damage from insects, disease, and neglect. Brothers Forest and Willow Wehr lead the company's logging and mulching divisions, respectively. King Mountain Forestry's logging clients include public agencies, working ranches, and small landowners. Treatment options range from selective vegetation thinning to clearcuts, depending on the landscape involved, the affected species, and owner preferences. Because KMF partners with small roundwood markets, our team handles a variety of timber sizes and stages. We will consider whips as well as sawlogs, and we work with both live and dead or dying trees, depending on the species and overall stand quality. The most common Montana tree species KMF selects for vegetation management purposes are lodgepole pine, Ponderosa pine, and fir.

When insect pests damage property, dead, dying, and fallen trees become serious safety hazards. Wildlife movements are difficult, streams and ditches can be impeded, and property owners face fire dangers. Many of these situations are aggravated by sub-optimal tree spacing, excessive undergrowth, and, in more open areas, stubbornly aggressive sagebrush, grasses, or

juniper. King Mountain Forestry offers several options for property owners seeking to reduce their forest fire risk. KMF's logging, limbing, and mulching services can help landowners preserve healthy trees while cleaning up debris and alleviating stressors that encourage infestations.

King Mountain Forestry's mulching crew uses masticating equipment to quickly and efficiently remove stubborn vegetation, including unsightly, hazardous, and unmarketable trees. Mulching is an especially cost-effective treatment for ranches and other landscapes with a combination of timbered and open acreage. At the same time, KMF's mulching services allow for targeted landscape control, enabling clients to focus on narrow but problematic areas such as strips bordering irrigation ditches, roadways, utility and railroad rights-of-way, and more.

King Mountain Forestry's catalog of logging, mulching, and vegetation management services provides practical, affordable solutions for property owners seeking to keep their land healthy. Private landowners whose treated land includes merchantable timber also earn stumpage payments that can be used to offset treatment costs and, in some cases, net profits. Contact us for more information about personalized projects for your property.

Environment and Sustainability

King Mountain Forestry is a strong advocate of active timber management as a means of maintaining and improving overall ecosystem health.
